And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope... Romans 5:3-4
We're almost halfway through this year of simply living, and while you may think that this experiment would get easier, it doesn't. The reality is that the conversation about whether we buy something or not will always be there. Do we need this? Do we need this now? Sometimes that conversation is hard. Sometimes that conversation pushes too many buttons. Sometimes you just want to throw in the towel. But, giving in won't help. Giving in won't accomplish anything.
It's in these days that I have to remember that learning to live with less and to live sustainably is work, but it is work that in the end will make us better consumers (not just buying for the sake of buying or having) and will help us to truly appreciate the abundance God provides. While life can seem stressful now, the skills we learn this year will help us in the long run. Eventually, it won't necessarily get easier, but it will get better.
Each day we shift the focus from material things, we can see more clearly life's most beautiful treasures. We may have to dig through some dirt to get there, but at the end of the ride, it will be worth it.
